Intro: E bass/ A Asus4 A/ A Asus4 A/

        A Asus4 A Asus4
There's too much on my mind,
        D Dsus4 G Gsus4 G
There's too much on my mind,
    D A
And I can't sleep at night thinking about it.
     A
I'm thinking of the time,
         D G
There's too much on my mind,
    D Dsus4 D Dsus4 A (Asus4 A)x2
It seems there's more to life than just to live it.

        F#m7 A7
There's too much on my mind,
             D A E
And there is nothing I can say.
        F#m7 A7
There's too much on my mind,
             D A E
And there is nothing I can do
D A Asus4 A Asus4... D Dsus4 D Dsus4
About it, About it.

    A Asus4 A Asus4
My thoughts just weigh me down,
    D G
And drag me to the ground,
     D Dsus4 D Dsus4 A Asus4 A Asus4
And shake my head till there's no more life in me.
      A D G
It's ruining my brain, I'll never be the same,
   D Dsus4 D A
My poor demented mind is slowly going.

        F#m7
There's too much on my mind,
             D A E
And there is nothing I can say.
        F#m7
There's too much on my mind,
             D A E
And there is nothing I can do
      D Dsus4 A
About it, About it.
       A
There's too much on my mind.

Date: 16 August, 2005 From: Chris Tanis Here's how I've always played it- (Based on the other version that's here) ***Note-in the intro, first verse, and outro, it isn't a straight Asus4 chord, it's an A chord with a 2nd and a 4th added, like thus: e|--------------------------------------------------------------------- b|-------------2---3---2----------------------------------------------- g|-------------2---4---2----------------------------------------------- d|--------------------------------------------------------------------- a|-------0------------------------------------------------------------- e|-0------------------------------------------------------------------- so it really oughtta be another name, but I couldn't tell you what in egghead music theory terms, it's just an Asus2 and an Asus4 at the same time. The major changes are the removal of the D chord before the G chord in the verses--to my ear there is no question that it stays on A there--and the other major change is in the chorus--I've just always heard it as a C#m chord--anyone else hear it this way? This is perhaps my favorite Kinks tune, by the way, from my fave LP of theirs (face to face)--got turned on to it by the movie "The American Friend," where it is used to great poignancy. Wim Wenders is a BIG Kinks fan. A Asus4 A Asus4 There's too much on my mind, A Asus4 G Gsus4 G There's too much on my mind, D A And I can't sleep at night thinking about it. Date: October 28, 2006 From: Tim Cronin (a.k.a. "bones") I like Chris Tanis' way with a couple of alterations maybe? Instead of hitting the E and then the A open strings, how about hitting the open E then hit the open E again sliding to the 5th fret A, then hitting the open A immediately followed by A chord - Asus4 - A sequence. There's definately a slide in there, don't you think? Also, I like Chris'C#m instead of Ian's F#m7. But I tried making the C#m a C#m7 and thought that might sound better too. Any opinion on this? Thank you, Tim Cronin bones
Date: July 9, 2013 From: John Lutschak I think Chris has got it right but the chorus sounds like this to me: C#m There's too much on my mind, D F#m E And there is nothing I can say. C#m There's too much on my mind, D F#m E And there is nothing I can do D Dsus4 A Asus4 (2) About it, About it.
