When Ray Davies and his brother, Dave, formed a band in the early '60s, little did anyone realize where the decision would lead them. Along with The Beatles, Stones, Who, Herman's Hermits, Animals, and others, The Kinks were an integral part of the "British Invasion" which forever changed the direction of popular music around the globe.

And unlike so many of those bands filling the airwaves of Top 40 radio in the early 1960s, The Kinks did not evaporate and disappear. Their hard-edged sound, influenced by the Blues (like so many British bands) was honed under Ray's tutelage into something uniquely their own. Thoughtful, sarcastic, catchy, and always cleverly interesting, The Kinks' original brand of music continued through the flower power of the late '60s, the disco of the '70s, and beyond.

The story begins here, however, with these two releases recorded over 30 years ago. Originally on the Pye label in Britain, their first effort "Kinks," was released by Reprise in the United States as "You Really Got Me". And, as was the habit in those days, the British pressing offered several songs which were not contained on their U.S. LP counterpart (they are included on this CD). The second title, "Kinda Kinks," from 1965, was identical on both sides of the Atlantic [Not true -dte].

In addition to the additional tracks from the first British recording, Mobile Fidelity has also included extra photos not on the original packaging.
